Years later, Oliver, now injured and bullied, still has the magic of Christmas in his heart. “The story follows Oliver’s excitement for Christmas, his heartbreak, and his determination to overcome all odds to save the day. Oliver, along with his friends, will warm your heart with his kindness, humility, and love for his family and friends. We asked Todd: Where do you get inspiration for your stories?

Five years ago, I was decorating a Christmas tree. As I was just about to hang the very last of over 200 ornaments on the tree, my partner walked in saying, “You don’t have to hang every ornament on the tree.” I responded, “What am I going to do with this one? Put him back in the attic where he’ll miss all the fun?” The light went off in my head immediately; a children’s Christmas story about an ornament that gets left behind in the attic. I knew I was onto something but didn’t know what the story was.

For the next four days, my mind was spinning with the possibilities of the story and how this story would resonate with children and adults. Then, on Christmas morning, while at my childhood home in Sheboygan, WI, I woke and the story came to me. I immediately went to the computer and wrote Oliver the Ornament. After breakfast, I surprised my family with the very first reading of Oliver the Ornament.

The story was tweaked and edited during the next several months, but the actual story of Oliver the Ornament took a total of four days from inspiration to having the first manuscript of the story completed.
